Introduction to workplace organizing - the IWW approach

IWW training: Tools and tactics for workplace organising and change.

Workplace organising is a cornerstone of unionism. It is the process through which workers collectively create change in their workplaces by identifying shared issues, building strong relationships, and taking action to improve their conditions.

Anyone can take part in organising – regardless of job role, seniority, or whether you are new at the workplace. Because organising focuses on relationships, you also don’t need to be an elected representative or covered by a collective agreement to get involved.

The IWW approach
In this training, you will be introduced to the IWW’s approach to workplace organising, grounded in grassroots direct action. While PROSA organises IT professionals, the IWW focuses on solidarity across all groups of workers – an approach known as “industrial unionism”.

Expected outcome
This course is part of a series of lessons and talks that will provide you with tools, tactics, and strategies for building solidarity with your co-workers and for creating real change in your workplace.
In each meeting we'll discuss particular aspects of organising in detail. Topics will be announced in advance.
We will begin the series with an overview of the organising process.

Target audience
The course is relevant for all workers that sell their labour - including employees, independent consultants, unemployed people, and students.
The focus is on workplaces – both traditional and non-traditional – but the same tools can also be applied in your apartment building, your job centre, or your school.

Trainer
The course is facilitated by a trainer from the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). More information and resources at https://www.iww.org/

Language
The default training language is English. If all participants speak Danish we will switch the language.
